Hardware Tokens & U2F Security Keys
Duo supports the use of traditional passcode hardware tokens and Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) hardware tokens. A U2F hardware token is a piece of hardware that looks like a USB drive and can be clipped to a keychain. When using Duo, instead of receiving a push notification or text message, a user can plug in the U2F token to their device and tap the token to authenticate their login attempt.
If anything is unclear or confusing in this article, please contact the A&IT Helpdesk via email at techsupport@baypath.edu or via phone at (413)565-1487.
Information for Students
If you'd like to use a U2F hardware token, Duo supports the use of U2F tokens created by a company named Yubico. The University does not supply these tokens, but will support their use so long as Duo supports them. More information about Yubico U2F compatible hardware tokens can be found on Yubico's website, https://www.yubico.com . If you're having trouble picking out which device works best for you, Yubico has a product selector tool that can be found here.
Information for Staff and Faculty
While we highly recommend another authentication method, in rare cases a passcode based hardware token may be the only option. Please contact the helpdesk for more information so we can talk through what your options are with Duo and ensure that a passcode based hardware token will be the best fit for your needs.
